Triphala is an Ayurvedic herbal rasayana formula consisting of equal parts of three astringent fruits: Amalaki (Emblica officinalis), Bibhitaki (Terminalia bellirica), and Haritaki (Terminalia chebula). The Hindi word triphala means literally “three fruits”.
Triphala acts as a complete body cleanser. It helps to detoxify and cleanse the colon; purify the blood; reduce some forms of cholesterol and remove toxins from the liver. It is considered a gentle laxative; an intestinal, liver and gallbladder stimulant that helps to decongest these organs.
Because of its high vitamin content, especially Vitamin C, Triphala is often used as a food supplement in India. Studies also suggest that triphala offers antioxidant, bacteria-killing, and immune-enhancing benefits, and may have anti-cancer effects.
Directions:
As a maintenance regime, take 1 tsp at betime with warm water or milk.
